You’d be hard pressed to find a metal subgenre this pedal doesn’t suit- from blackgaze to goregrind. The Boss ML-2 Metal Core Effects Pedal dominates the competition when it comes to high gain distortion pedals. In many ways, the Metal Core is the spiritual successor to the mythical HM-2 from the 80s. Both offered grinding, saturated distortion tones perfect for metal styles. The ML-2 is slightly more tameable and lacks the fizzy edge that the HM-2 could reach when dimed so overall has more clarity. Even the controls and four knob layout is shared. There’s no reason why the ML-2 Metal Core can’t become just as legendary as its older counterpart with all the aggression and crushingly thick distortion you expect, just with greater clarity. A future classic.
