Bluewhale germanium fuzzbox guitar pedal is built to an iconic
design from the 1960s, it uses 2x N41 germanium transistors that were surplus
from the soviet military. These transistors are of very high quality, transistor
1 tested gain 55, leakage 0, transistor 2 tested gain 70, leakage 0, with my
DCA55 transistor tester. These values are considered to be optimal for this
design.

 
      The switching is true bypass so when not in your signal
path the pedal has no effect on your guitars tone. When selected you have a
drive pot which controls distortion and a level pot which adjusts the strength
of the signal driving your amplifier. This pedal is not buffered, this allows
the pedal to interact with your guitars controls to produce a wide range of
classic tones.

 
      Due to its now obsolete pnp transistors this pedal has to
be wired positive earth so no external power socket is fitted, it runs from
internal battery power only. This is not so bad however because the pedal only
draws about 1.5mA of current so the battery will last a long time.
