Material:
In the best violin maker tradition the guitar is built entirely from maple: The
top, sides and back as well as the elaborate, three-piece, lengthwise glued
neck, including the headstock are made from one piece. The fingerboard is made
of rosewood and has large, cream-white trapezoid inlays. Extensive bindings
around body, neck, headstock and sound holes, up to five layers thick.
Beautiful, pickguard with decal, also made of several layers, multilayer nut to
match the binding. In addition open tuners and the typical, beautiful East
German tailpiece. This guitar is altogether very elaborate and of high quality
construction and in great condition.

Instruments history:
Marma here does not stand for Markneukirchen, as one might think, but for
Musikhaus am Rhein, Mainz! The company was founded there in 1920 by Karl Bauer,
but already had a branch in the Vogtland in the twenties. After World War II,
the company moved completely to Markneukirchen, as the old business premises of
the main branch in Mainz had been bombed out. There it became part of the socialist
economy and continued to produce high-quality instruments for many years. We do
not know the history of our instrument; it came to us as part of a larger
collection, like so many others. It is unlikely to have experienced much; it’s
almost flawless condition rather speaks for a comfortable living room career.
